Dolly-Parton

Dolly Parton was born on the 19th January, 1946 on the 19th of January 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. She lived with twelve other kids. Her imaginative mind allowed her to escape the harsh realities of everyday life. Prior to learning how to read or write she wrote her own songs. In 8 years, she got her first guitar. In the age of 11 when she was 11, she began singing at the Knoxville Tennessee radio station. That same year she made her debut recording for Gold Band Records a tiny independent label. Although she became an established local celebrity while at High School, she knew her goals were bigger. She moved to Nashville shortly after her graduation in 1964. Dumb Blonde was her first record to chart on Monument Records. Porter Wagoner, a syndicated show on TV at the time was searching for a singer for his program. Parton joined RCA Records and then joined the Grand Ole Opry. She accepted her job in 1967. It was not until 1974 when she made the decision to quit Wagoner's band because the popularity of her own solo records including Joshua Coat, Many Colors, and Jolene was outstripping their joint efforts. After their split, Parton wrote the song I Will Always Love You for Wagoner and it reached the top spot at No. Its first appearance at No. 1 was 1974.
